Redefining Mental Health, One Story at a Time

Mental Health Times was founded on a simple but radical belief: mental health deserves better media.

Not just more awareness—but deeper conversations.
Not just diagnoses—but context, creativity, and complexity.

We are a collective of writers, thinkers, survivors, and builders committed to telling mental health stories that go beyond stigma—toward systems change, cultural insight, and lived experience leadership.

Mental Health Times is a bold, peer-led digital publication committed to reshaping the conversation around mental health, stigma, and systems of oppression. We center lived experience. We elevate underrepresented voices. And we believe that storytelling is a powerful tool for healing, justice, and transformation. From investigative features to first-person narratives, we explore the intersections of mental health with culture, policy, disability, identity, and power.

Our Mission

To amplify underrepresented voices and foster cross-disciplinary understanding of mental health as it intersects with culture, technology, and justice.

We aim to shift the narrative around mental health by highlighting voices that are often left out — including peer advocates, neurodiverse creatives, and those living at the margins. We bring together investigative journalism, personal essays, multimedia storytelling, and data-informed reporting to challenge stigma and inspire collective action.

Our Core Values

  • 🗣️ Peer-Driven Journalism: Stories shaped by people with lived experience—not just outside observers.
  • ⚖️ Equity & Intersectionality: We explore how race, gender, class, and culture intersect with mental health.
  • 🧠 Science & Systems Thinking: Mental health is shaped by systems—economic, political, technological—not just brain chemistry.
  • 🎨 Creativity & Community: We value expression, art, and collective healing.
  • 🌱 Future-Focused Ethics: We ask not just what is, but what should be—and build toward it.

What Makes Us Different

Unlike traditional outlets, Mental Health Times is built on a foundation of community journalism, peer leadership, and editorial integrity rooted in justice. We’re not just telling stories about mental health — we’re telling them through it, from those who live it daily. Our contributors include people with lived experience, journalists, clinicians, researchers, artists, and technologists.

We are a collaborative publishing platform led by people with lived experience, backed by editorial standards, and powered by a shared vision:

  • We don’t tokenize peer voices—we center them.
  • We don’t simplify the story—we explore its roots.
  • We don’t follow trends—we set them with purpose.

Our Long Term Vision

To become a leading platform for mental health innovation and advocacy, driving impact through ethical storytelling, open access media, and inclusive partnerships. Whether we’re spotlighting emerging mental health tech or unpacking cultural narratives around trauma, our goal is the same: to create media that heals, educates, and mobilizes.
