📰 Future Journalists Wanted

We’re building something new — a paid journalism internship where lived experience meets storytelling, mentorship, and social impact. This program is still in development, but its roots run deep.

If you believe in the power of voice, narrative, and mental health advocacy, we invite you to learn more and stay connected.

🔍 About the Program

The Mental Health Times Journalism Internship is a paid, hands-on opportunity to gain experience in journalism, multimedia content creation, and mental health storytelling.
We work at the intersection of media, justice, and lived experience—redefining what it means to report on mental health with depth, dignity, and nuance.

This is not a passive internship. You’ll write, create, interview, edit, and publish work that matters.

🌱 Where This Idea Came From

This isn’t just a new idea — it’s the next chapter of a legacy.

In past years, we hosted USC interns through both Painted Brain and Peer Mental Health.

Though funding disappeared, the vision behind those internships never did. That vision is now evolving into something new.

🧭 What We’re Building

We envision a program that will:

  • Offer paid journalism internships with flexible, remote options
  • Serve peer storytellers, students, and community journalists
  • Publish stories through Mental Health Times and partner platforms
  • Provide mentorship and trauma-informed editorial coaching
  • Center underrepresented voices in mental health, culture, and justice

👥 Who It’s For (Eventually)

This future program may be open to:

  • Journalism or communications students
  • Peer advocates with lived experience in mental health
  • Emerging storytellers and narrative justice activists
  • Applicants from marginalized or underrepresented backgrounds

🔔 Be Part of the Build

We are actively seeking:

  • Advisors to help shape the structure and ethics
  • Funders who want to invest in emerging media makers
  • Mentors with editorial development experience

If you’d like to support or co-develop this vision, please reach out below.
